How to cut copy and paste on a Mac

When I switched to Mac for the first time, I was having this same confusion that how to cut, copy and paste on a Mac because I was using Windows earlier and  I am sure that you too must be having the same confusion that’s why you are reading this post.

We are used to Windows environment and we know which keys to press in order to execute cut copy paste command, but as a Mac beginner we are always looking for ways to increase our productivity, so we keep on searching for short cuts methods to make ourselves more Mac friendly.

On Windows we use Ctrl + C command to copy, Ctrl + X command to Cut and Ctrl + V command to Paste. What about Mac, what are the keyboard equivalents for Mac in order to execute the same command. Don’t worry; it’s very easy on Mac too.

I will explain you how to cut copy and paste on Mac, but before that let me inform you that this post is going to get updated in future based on technological updates as you also know technology never remains the same and it keeps on updating.

How to Copy and Paste texts on a Mac?

Copy:-

First I will show you how to copy a text on Mac. There are two ways to copy texts on Mac:-

1. By using mouse
2. By using keyboard

1. By using a mouse: Here you have to select the text which you want to copy by dragging your mouse, right click on it and click copy from the list.

[⌘ Command + C key]

2. By using keyboard:This is another way of copying texts on Mac. The procedure is same first you have to select the texts which you want to copy and then you have to press 2 keys, the Command key with symbol + C.

So these are the two ways by which you can copy texts on a Mac. Now I will show you how to paste text once you have copied.

Paste:-

Once you have copied the text by using any of the above two method, now you have to paste the text. In Paste also there are two methods to execute this command. They are as follows:-

1. By using mouse
2. By using keyboard

1. By using mouse: Once you have copied the text, just right click on the destination where you want to paste the text. Select Paste from the list and the copied text will be paste to your destination.

[⌘ Command + V key]

2. By using a keyboard: Once you have copied the text choose the destination where you want to paste the text. On keyboard paste command can be achieved by pressing the Command key ⌘ + V key. After selecting your destination press two keys and your text will be pasted to your desired destination.

How to Cut Paste texts on a Mac?

Cut:-

The Cut Command is used for deleting text from the old destination, and pasting it to a new destination both in Windows as well as Mac. In Mac also there are two ways by which we can achieve the Cut function. They are as follows:-

1. By using a mouse
2. By using a keyboard

1. By using a mouse: Select the text which you want to cut by dragging your mouse over the text. Right click your mouse and select cut from the list. As you select cut, the texts will be deleted from your old destination and now wherever you want to paste your text just select your destination and right click your mouse again you will get the paste option. Select the paste option and the text will be pasted to your new destination.

[⌘ Command + X key]

2. By using a keyboard: You can achieve the cut command on a keyboard by selecting the text which you want to cut and press the two keys, i.e. Command ⌘ + X keys on your keyboard to cut a text. This way you can cut text using keyboard.

Paste:-

The paste command can be achieved in a similar way which I have explained above in How to copy and paste on Mac section. Just refer that section in order to paste texts after cutting.

Keyboard short cuts for Cut Copy and Paste on Mac

So in short the two key combination short cuts for Cut, Copy and Paste on Mac are as follows:-

Cut: ⌘ Command + X key
Copy: ⌘ Command + C key
Paste: ⌘ Command + V key
