How to display/show My Computer icon on Desktop in Windows 10 8 7

Most of you like me must be having a habit to open My Computer icon from the desktop like you used to do in the earlier version of Windows. 

When you switch to Windows 10 you would see a completely different appearance of menu on the desktop.

You might be searching for My Computer, Recycle bin and many other options on your new Operating System. To solve this problem in short, in Windows 10 My Computer option is called This PC.

How to show my computer icon on desktop in Windows 10, 8 and 7

In my earlier post I have mentioned about how to clear Google search browsing history on your Windows 10 pc, Android phone or iPhone. Today I will show you how to display “My Computer” icon on Desktop in Windows 10, 8 and 7.

How to display My Computer / This PC icon on Desktop in Windows 10?

You can display Computer, Recycle Bin, User Files, Network and Control Panel on Desktop using Desktop icon settings. For that you have to follow these simple steps:-

1. First you have to right right click on an empty space on your desktop and click on Personalize option as shown below in the image.

2. You will get a Personalization window. Click on Themes on left and then click on Go to desktop icon settings on the right pane. Refer below image for your reference.

3. Now Desktop Icon Settings window will open. Check the box next to Computer. If you want to show other options also on desktop such as Recycle Bin, Network, Control Panel, etc, then check mark those boxes too. Refer below image for more details.

4. Finally click on Apply and then click on OK and you are done.

This will show This PC option on desktop. Now you can customize it by right clicking on This PC and rename it as My Computer. So this way you customize it like earlier Windows version.

How to show My Computer option on desktop in Windows 7 and 8?

The method to show My Computer icon on desktop in Windows 7 and 8 is almost same. Follow the steps mentioned below:-

1. First you have to right click on your desktop and click on Personalize option as shown below in the iamge.

2. When you click on Personalize a window will open. You have to click on Change desktop icons in the top left corner as shown below in the image.


3. This will open Desktop Icon Settings window. Check the box next to Computer as shown below in the image. If you also want to show Recycle Bin, User Files, Control Panel or Network, then check the box next to these options. Refer image below for your reference.

4. Finally click on Apply button on the bottom right and then click on OK button and you are done. This will show all options on Desktop which you have checked in the Desktop icons settings.

One more method of showing My Computer option on your desktop in Windows 7 and 8

There is one more method to show My Computer icon on Desktop as follows:- 

1. Click on Start menu in the bottom left corner of the screen as shown below in the image.


2. Right click on Computer, you will get a menu with an option Show on Desktop. Just click this option and this will display My Computer icon on desktop. This is one of the easiest and simplest method to show My Computer on desktop.
