What is CSRSS.exe?

CSRSS.exe or Client/Server Runtime Subsystem is an inbuilt windows component which comes with installation of your Windows OS. You can find CSRSS.exe in Windows 10, 8 and 7 operating system under Processes tab in Windows Task Manager.

It is stored under System32 folder of your Windows operating system. It is a Client Server Runtime Process in Task Manager.

Is CSRSS.exe file a Trojan?

CSRSS.exe file is not a Trojan, virus or a spyware as I have mentioned earlier. It is safe for your system and runs in background without any issues. It is the most critical and vital process for any Windows OS.

You can face system failures if you try to remove or delete CSRSS.exe file from your system. Sometimes it happens that these files get corrupted or damaged by a Trojan, malware, virus or a worm.

But the good thing is that we can remove the infected file easily which I have explained below.

How to remove damaged or corrupt CSRSS.exe file?

There are several reason for CSRSS.exe file to get damaged, but we can fix it using any of the 2 methods mentioned below:-

1. Scanning your pc for Trojan, malware or virus

One reason CSRSS.exe  had got infected just because of a trojan, a virus or a malware.

Good antivirus or anti-malware software can easily detect the corrupted or damaged CSRSS.exe file and automatically repair or clean this file.

You should not delete this file without taking help of a proper antivirus or anti-malware software as CSRSS.exe file is a process in Microsoft Windows Operating System.

If you delete the legitimate file by mistake than this can cause system failure issues. So don’t take this risk and let the antivirus software deal with it.

2. Fixing Corrupt Registry of CSRSS.exe using System Restore Point

You can fix corrupt CSRSS.exe registry file by doing a System Restore. System Restore is a method by which we can restore our pc to a back date when the system was working fine. This in a inbuilt tool which comes with installation of your Windows operating system.

To open System Restore option simply press Start button and type System Restore in the search box. If you are still having problems to open System Restore option then read How to do System Restore on my PC.

Choose restore point date when your pc was working fine and start the System Restore process and this will fix the CSRSS.exe corrupt registry issue.

Another reason CSRSS,exe file get corrupted or damaged is due to a corrupt user profile which I have explained in detail below. Keep reading for more details.

What to do when CSRSS.exe is using 100% CPU resources?

High CPU Usage (100% or 99%) is mainly due to a corrupt user profile. You can fix this by simply creating a new profile and deleting the old profile. But before deleting the old profile follow the steps mentioned below:-

1.Back up all important files in My Document folder.

2. Log out of your old profile account and login to the new profile which you have created. If you already have another profile then no need to create new profile. You can directly login using your other profile.

3. Once you have logged in to your other profile or the profile which you have created, right click My Computer (in Windows 7 & 8) or This PC (in Windows 10) from desktop and click Properties.

4. Click Advanced tab in the System Properties window as shown below.
