You might want to encrypt a certain file or folder just because you wanted to keep it safe and secure so that only you can access it and no other person should touch the file.

The process to encrypt your data is same in Windows 10 like earlier versions (Windows 8, 7 and XP). But it's better o learn this process once more. We have to use Encrypted File Service to encrypt any files or folder in Windows 10.

How to Encrypt Files and Folders in Windows 10



You can encrypt any files or folders in Windows 10 using the Encrypted File Service (EFS). This is the easiest and fastest way to encrypt a file or folder.

With this simple tool you can easily protect your file in few seconds. So let’s get started with the tutorial…

1 First you have to go to the file or folder which you want to Encrypt.

2. Right click on the file or folder you want to Encrypt and select Properties.


3. On General tab, click on Advanced.



4. You will get Advanced Attributes window. Under Compress or Encrypt attributes, check the box next to Encrypt contents to secure data.

5. Click Ok to close Advance Attributes window.

6. Finally click Apply and OK to close Properties window. When prompted, apply changes to all files and subfolders.



Once you are done with all the steps given above you have successfully encrypted your file or folder. The name of the encrypted folder or texts will change to either Green or Blue color depending on the Operating System you are using.

Please note that you will only be able to access the encrypted file with the login account you have used to encrypt the file or folder. No other people would be able to access it. So better keep a note of password or you won’t be able to access your file ever.
