How to Make an Offline Printer Online in Windows 10

There could be several reasons your printer has gone offline. Sometimes printer gets offline because of paper jam problem, USB connectivity problems, network issues or some hardware failures.

In most cases it turns on online automatically when these types of issues are fixed. But at times we have to make printer online manually by troubleshooting steps given in this guide.

In my earlier post I have mentioned about How to Encrypt any files in Windows 10. Today I will show you how to make an offline printer online on Windows 10, 8 or 7 computer.

So let's get started with the troubleshooting steps given below:-

Step 1: Check Your Printer for Connectivity Issues

When your Printer gets offline, it simply means that there is something wrong with the connectivity between your Printer and your Computer, either the USB cable is loose or there is some network connection issue.

So in order to check the Printer connectivity issue with your Computer, follow the steps given below:-

1 First you have to turn off your printer and then turn it on again and then wait for some time to get it fully ready.

2 If your printer is connected through a USB cable, you have to make sure that the cable is in good condition and it is properly connected to your computer and printer.

3. If your printer is connected through a wireless network, then make sure that it is properly connected with your Computer’s network. In most printer, there is a wireless icon light which lit-up to indicate that your printer is perfectly connected to your PC.

4. If you are using a wired network to connect to your printer, then you have to make sure that the cable of your Printer is properly connected with the Ethernet port and the Ethernet port is connected on the router properly.

Now try to print a document using your printer. If this doesn’t resolve your problem, then follow the next step.

Step 2:  Check Print Status of Your Printer

If still your Printer is offline, then you can check print status of your Printer. This may help to make your Printer online.

1. Restart your Printer (Simply turn it off and power on again)

2. Type Device and Printers in the search box as shown below.

3. Right click your printer icon with a green tick and select See what's printing as shown below.

4. If you don't see your printer icon with green tick, then right click it and select Set as default printer as shown below.

5. Now again right click the printer icon and select See what's printing as shown in serial no. 3 above.

6. Click on Printer as shown below. If there is is tick next to Pause Printing or Use Printer Offline. Just remove those ticks.

7. Now try again printing your document. If it works, then you have successfully resolved printer offline issue on your Windows 10 computer. But if this also doesn't work out for you, then you can try the 3rd step.

Step 3. Restart Print Spooler Service

In most cases it happens the Print Spooler service is not working properly due to which your might have problem and your printer gets offline. 

Restarting the print spooler service sometimes fix the problem. So let's do this as follows:-

1. Type Services in the search box as shown below and open Services.

2. Press P on your keyboard to locate Print Spooler immediately. Once you locate Print Spooler, simply restart its services by click on the Restart link on the left pane  as shown below in the image.

A service control window will open to restart the Print Spooler services. Just wait for a few seconds and it will close automatically.

3. Now try again printing your document. If still you are not able to print your document, then you can follow step 4.

Step 4: Contact Customer Support

If you are still not able to solve this problem, then there might be some problem with the hardware. You maybe using any HP, Epson, Canon or Brother Printer. The best resolution would be to contact Customer Support Team.

Also, I would like to inform you that if your Printer is still in warranty, then better don't play with it more and call the Support Engineer from the Printer company itself as they are the best person to solve this issue for you.
